Dental care just became more accessible for millions of Canadians. With the new Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) rolling out in 2024 and into 2025, Smile Solutions Dental Centre in White Rock is here to help you understand what this means for you and your family.
What is the CDCP?
The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is a national program created by the Government of Canada to help cover dental care costs for eligible Canadians who do not have private dental insurance. It aims to improve access to essential oral health services and reduce financial barriers for those who need it most.
Who Is Eligible?
Eligibility is based on family income and whether or not you have private dental coverage. To qualify, you must:
Be a Canadian resident for tax purposes
Have a household income under $90,000 annually
Not have access to private dental insurance (through work, school, or individually purchased plans)
Have filed your income tax return for the previous year
When Can I Apply?
The rollout of the CDCP is happening in phases based on age groups:
Age Group / Situation | Application Start Date |
Seniors (aged 65 and over) | December 2023 – May 2024 |
Adults with a Disability Tax Credit certificate | June 2024 |
Children under 18 | June 2024 |
All remaining eligible adults | 2025 |
The full rollout will be completed by mid-2025, with online applications available through the Government of Canada website.
